Plea for help

After I added some Feedburner code to my blog template, my sidebar began to show up down at the bottom of the blog.

If there is anyone out there who could tell me how to fix this, there is a free print in it for you...

Watch the birdies...

I have been working on some digital collages utilizing vintage illustrations of birds and some of my urban texture photos. So far, there are 7, but I have more to complete. I decided to take liberties with the colors of the birds where I could.

Available on Etsy.

Internationals...

It's not really clear to me how, when, and why I came up with this idea, but I was going through a phase where I was experimenting with seeing how many images I could come up with using a basic shape as the basis. In these images, I started with a basic head shape that I manipulated to resemble different animals.

Currently, these are in the Etsy shop...

Going to the Dogs...

I have been trying for about 13 years to come up with series of dogs, and things finally came together with these new images of a few Labradors and a Wire Fox Terrier. A Pug, Golden Retriever, and a Jack Russell Terrier are in the works, among others.

Being that I enjoy the production of art, this series should sustain me for a while, as there will be no lack of subject matter.

These are available on Etsy.

New Lunastrella Rollerskates!

My oldest daughter is turning 5 soon with a rollerskating birthday party on the schedule. So once again my wife needing some art for one of the kids has helped me to create some new work. I added some new background colors to the series for this one, gray and pink.

These are available at Etsy...

What to do next?

I have been buried this week with a motion design project that wraps up today. I am excited to start on some new art soon, but not sure where I want to start. We need to prep for the summer season here in the gallery, so I need to generate some back stock/inventory.

I have always been interested in objects that are so associated with a locale as to be iconic, like red double decker buses and London. That interest led me to create some art of the last few years that I call my British Stuff, however lame a title that is. I ended up researching old buses and found some great resources for some of the transit vehicles from other cities in the UK. I am working now to finish those pieces and look forward to seeing who connects with them.

More critters are on the way, as well as collages with vintage technical illustrations. My maternal grandmother loaned me a mountain of kodachromes that my grandfather took on family vacations in the 50s. They are classic roadside attraction type shots, and I see something along the lines of my Rovinato series happening with those.

Mintd and Lov.li and Kunek

I have opened up shop on Mintd.com and on lov.li. These are two sites that allow you to sell your art, so hopefully, that's what I am gonna do. I had the opportunity to join Etsy earlier in it's development than I actually did, so I am hoping to avoid that mistake in the future...

On a another front, I have been listing to a great band out of Stillwater, OK called Kunek. They are are a bit hard to describe, in that I don't want to label them as Radiohead-esque. I urge you to check them out...

Pushpin Miniatures Launch

For the past 2 years, I have been experimenting with developing a new format for the delivery of art. One that would be so affordable that artists could easily give them away, and patrons would be willing to pass these small masterpieces along to others, all so that artists could gain exposure for their work.

I have launched the Beta phase of the Pushpin Miniatures Project
, and of pushpinminiatures.org. The website offers what I think is the most exciting aspect of the project, the ability to track what happens to PPMs after they leave the hands of their creators.

Visit pushpinminiatures.org for more info...

Feeling the love from Baby Gadget

Thanks go out to Justine at Baby Gadget for such a nice feature. Being an artist is very rewarding, but never more so when someone so thoroughly understands what you are creating. Thanks Justine!!!

Electroman gets painted

It's always fun to revisit some early subjects and try a different approach, mixing what new styles I have developed in the meantime.
So...Electroman, one of my early Golden age of Sci-fi robots gets scuffed up a bit in this new series. Others will come as well.

I have always enjoyed using typeforms in my work, and also putting messages in that aren't easily deciphered.

Swimming across the big pond

In the next few weeks, I'll be sending lots of fish prints to England, to be looked after by Tracey Tucker at www.traceytucker.co.uk . Tracey is an amazing artist with a focus on the sea, and my fish prints will be available on her shop site, http://tbythesea.moonfruit.com/.
This may make it a bit easier for folks in the UK to get my prints.

This new work is for the birds...

Alright, I probably shouldn't say it like that, but hopefully it grabbed your attention. These sweet little birds are inspired by Japanese paintings, and are available on Etsy. Chirpitty Chirp!

The Enamored Moths

This one is a companion piece to "The Enlightened Fireflies", and it was a tough one to get right. Now...tough is a relative term. Digital is certainly faster than traditional techniques, and it was not tough in the traditional methods sense. However, it took many, many attempts to get it right.

But now I am finally happy with it. I eventually realized out that the amount of light put out by a light bulb isn't not as low as that put off by a jar of fireflies. Once I got that idea, I conceded that I would have to make that bulb brighter, and that I could make it brighter and have the print still match the fireflies.

Anyway, this one is available in my Etsy shop.

Big thank you's go out to Christi Jensen at small.town.fun. for featuring the piece, and she now holds the world speed record for featuring one of my new pieces. She blogged about it before I could. Once again, I am blown away to be included with such amazing artists.

Flitter Critters?

Okay, so I am on a major critter kick, what can I say?

Here is my latest. It is the first in a new critter series, tentatively called flitter critters. It's gonna be insects, maybe nocturnal insects, which may need to be it's own series.

Here's "The Enlightened Fireflys", available on Etsy.

Another Critter...

Ah, the sensible owl. Before long I will start a barnyard critters series, a yard critters (cats and dogs), a crawly critters series (bugs), and probably a jungle critters one too.

This is such a fun style to work, and we have some nice recycled barn wood frames on order, which look really god with these.

This one's available at Etsy.

Best Birthday Ever....

May 3rd marked a milestone for me with another birthday, and my lovely wife surprised me with an overnight trip to Bald Head Island. The idea was for us to travel over by ferry, and for me to spend the entire time taking photographs. My wife went along for the ride, and I came back with 250 pictures taken.

My kids gave me a Holga camera, which I am enjoying quite a bit, but have yet to see any of my results yet. It was really interesting to be using a film camera again after a year of nothing but digital. The first 4 shots I took with the lens cap on.

Even more thanks...

I must thank Degan Beley for including me and my work in her article on Etsy for the Canadian magazine Ion. I had a very nice discussion with Degan about Etsy and the Etsy community, and the mag saw fit to include 4 of images with the article.

As with Decor8's recent dominomag.com article, I am honored to be included among some of my favorite Etsy artists.

Many more thanks are in order

Lots of folks have been sending out the good word about my work into the blogosphere, and I am grateful for the exposure...

We Heart Prints

Any press is good press...

But press is especially good when it is generated by Holly Becker over at Decor8. She has written an online exclusive for Domino Magazine featuring myself and several of my fellow independent artists from the Etsy community.

Holly's blog is a great resource for finding new art, and I owe her a debt of gratitude for getting the word out about Etsy and its artists. As usual, she has done an outstanding job. Please visit Decor8 when you have a chance...
